Information Technology Agreement: Boosting Europe's economy

Έναρξη 09:00 - Λήξη 17:00
European Parliament Members’ Salon, Brussels
Last December, the European Union and over fifty of the most tech savvy countries in the world concluded an historic agreement at the MC10 in Nairobi: the expansion of the 1996 Information Technology Agreement (ITA). Since its conclusion in 1996, the ITA has been one of the most commercially successful WTO trade pacts, contributing enormously to promoting jobs, increasing competitiveness, lowering consumer prices, boosting economic growth, and fostering innovation around the world.

The expanded ITA is great news for consumers, who should see the prices of their favourite electronic products fall. While everyone is talking about Industry 4.0, it is also expected to give a boost to Europe's manufacturing sector, giving our entrepreneurs an easier access to state-of-the-art technologies and help them reach out to new markets.

The panel will present the importance of this deal for Europe and discuss the next challenges at WTO and Europe’s level, including services and non-tariff barriers.

Speakers:

- Bernd Lange (S&D, Germany), Chairman of the INTA Committee

- Maria Åsenius, Head of Cabinet, Cabinet of Trade Commissioner Malmström

- Magnus Nordeus, Senior Group Legal Counsel, Trade Policy & Compliance, Ericsson

- David Sweeney, CEO & Co-Founder Games Ireland and General Counsel at ISFE
