The EU Agency ENISA, the (European Network and Information Security Agency) has launched a report on cyber bullying and online grooming (preparing sexual abuse); warning that misuse of data (data mining and profiling) harms minors.
The report identifies the top emerging risks and makes 18 non-technical recommendations for their mitigation. One key recommendation is to strengthen Member State’s law enforcement agencies.

ICT Spending to Bounce Back; Reach Pre-Recession Levels by 2013

The Great Recession of 2009 saw a decline in global ICT spending of 3 percent, with computer hardware and communications equipment sectors being hit particularly hard, according to Digital Planet 2010, a study released by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) on the third day of WITSA’s 17th World Congress for Information Technology. However, with return to growth in all sectors in 2010, ICT spending will reach pre-recession levels by 2013. Coming out of the recession, a built up demand will fuel a surge in ICT spending, reaching 8.7 percent globally by 2011 before flattening out at around 6 percent from 2013 onwards.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands – Malaysia’s Dato’ Dan E Khoo was re-elected as Chairman of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA) for a second two-year term at the May 24th WITSA General Assembly. WITSA also elected a new Deputy Chairman and Board of Directors.

Industry Minister Tony Clement joined 75 other Canadians to a delegation to the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Amsterdam, the Netherlands from May 25 to 27. During the event, the Canadian delegation met with industry experts, policy makers and government officials from around the world to uncover new international business opportunities for Canada’s information and communications technology sector. A ceremony was held today to officially hand over hosting privileges from Amsterdam to its next host city in 2012 – Montreal, Canada.

The EU ‘cyber security’ Agency - ENISA (the European Network and Information Security Agency) presents its new, 3rd ‘spam report’, i.e. anti-spam measures implemented by European Internet service providers (ISPs). The report looks at spam budgets, impact of spam and spam management. No significant progress is reported in the fight against spam.

The European Commission has announced the names of the 52 finalists that are going to compete for the European eGovernment Awards 2009. The Awards ceremony will take place on 19th November in Malmö (Sweden).
